I am ending with the BEST! There is no better children's story than The Paper Bag Princess. It is funny, sharp, and Michael Marchenko's art is perfect for Robert Munsch's story. In my mind this is a cult classic in children's storytelling.

Why is it always the prince who saves the princess?!

Elizabeth is courageous and smart. She outsmarts a dragon and saves the bum of a prince who she is destined to marry. Then he has the gall to mention how messy and terrible she looks. "You smell like ashes." OMGoodness! Who says that?!

She compliments his snazzy looks before telling him what a jerk he is and then dances away into the sunrise with zero interest in ever marrying him.

That is the story I wanted my little princess to read. Elizabeth is amazing!

When the Paper Bag Princess was published it sold 3,000 copies in the first year and since then it has sold almost 3,000,000. How amazing is that? So, if you are the one bum who doesn't have it, go buy it. :)
