Ani's Summer Friday Faves: Favourite Children's Authors

My favourite children's authors are those I adored as a child and still adore as an adult. I could read them every day.

Dr.Seuss was a genius. He was put to the task of getting children back reading books during a time when there was not a lot of interest in the past children's books and high illiteracy rate. He was told to stuff as many words he could into a story and he flew with it, making super fun books with a record amount of words. As he grew as a writer he began to bring political themes into his books. There are a few new Seuss books that are more non-fiction about whales/space etc that are from the tv show. They are stacked here but are not my faves.

I posted on Shel Silverstein before as an author who formed me as a child. Shel is a true artist of word and with ink. Jump to the full story here.

Robert Munsch is my daughter's favourite childhood author. She has every one of his books. The Paper Bag Princess is one of my favourite books of all time and if you have read my previous musings, has been mentioned often. Haha! Winnipeg's Prairie Theatre Exchange has performed theatre productions of 2-3 Robert Munsch stories on and off for decades. They are super fun stories and easy to portray on stage. Each book feels like it was written for a particular child in his life. His voice and choice of repetition flows through most of his books but each story is unique and fun.
