Ani's Ode to Books - My Childhood summed up with 6 Books - Day 5 -Gyo Fujikawa's Oh, What a Busy Day

Gyo Fujikawa's Oh, What a Busy Day book cover with little children smiling and playing in a meadow of flowers with a small tree. White clouds lay atop a blue sky. The book sits on a quilt made of books and trees in the background.

Oh, What a Busy Day! would be my most read book ever in my life. I loved it. The little simple poems, rhymes, and stories were staggered around hundreds of little round faced children.

My dad picked this up for me on a work trip to Boston (I think). He brought it home and I never put it down. When I found it at the charity book market, my daughter couldn't put it down. It is magical. I also found two other Gyo Fujikawa books but this one is still my favourite. I look forward to sharing it with my one day grandkids (hopefully not too soon.)

I am now in my 40's and I can say that I've always been a combination of child and senior. I somehow skipped the entire middle part of development. Perhaps that is why I am still so attached to children's books and love writing children's stories. I think if I wrote for adults, it may confuse people. What do I know about being an average twenty year old? What do they even think about? I was never truly twenty.

"I am flattered when people ask me how I know so much about how children think and feel. Although I have never had children of my own, and cannot say I had a particularly marvelous childhood, perhaps I can say I am still like a child myself. Part of me, I guess, never grew up." - Gyo Fujikawa
