Ani's Ode to Books - My Childhood summed up with 6 Books - Day 6 -Tomei de Paola's Strega Nona

Tomei de Paola's Strega Nona book cover. An old round woman in old fashioned clothes carries a round iron pot. She is looking up at a peacock in a tree and standing in front of a tiny house with a bird on the roof.

Oh, Big Anthony, why did you not leave her darn pasta pot alone?? I could never understand why that boy was so dumb. You don't mess with a witch's tool.

Tomei de Paola was a fabulous storyteller and illustrator. Strega Nona is another book that I nearly know by heart. I think my interest in books about healers, midwives, and wise women stemmed from Strega Nona. Even though Nona from my Iggy's Voyage couldn't be more different than Strega Nona, I wanted a little of her magic essence in Iggy's story.
